Why is Communication Important?

Emotional communication is important because the ability to understand, manage, and express your emotions by how you relate to yourself, others, and the world around you affects every aspect of your day to day life.

Intellectual communication is important because it is about keeping your mind active, curious, and engaged. It is the ongoing pursuit of knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking through everyday learning, problem-solving, and self-expression.

Physical communication is important because it goes beyond words and helps us connect with others on an emotional and social level. Positive body language helps people feel comfortable, understood, and valued.

Who Am I

Society discusses ‘talking’ all the time, we are defined by how much or how little we talk. As a child I was always in the camp of ‘you talk too much!’ So why have we stopped talking to each other? Why do we send a text or an email instead of picking up the phone or walking that short distance down the corridor to have a conversation.

I have been a drama teacher for most of my career, across a range of educational contexts. During that time, I have been lucky enough to work with amazing staff and students. Throughout my career one thing has never changed, how much I enjoy talking to people, of all ages.

One of the most important skills that employers prioritise is the ability to communicate. I founded TalkActually, to support, assist, mentor and coach people to do exactly that. To not be scared or anxious to talk and to do it with confidence, because your voice is unique to you and it should be heard.
